It is a custom for Iban men to do a ‘bejalai’ as their ‘coming of age’ ritual by going places to seek knowledge, wisdom and wealth. Fortunately, with the passage of time, Iban women have the privilege to do the same. Why do I say that it is a privilege? It is because not all Iban women have this opportunity to move beyond their hometown or village.

Therefore, I am truly honoured with this ‘privilege’, for I am my ancestors’ wildest dream.
